Recipe Development, NPD, Formula Optimisation

Leading the world

Hamilton Grant’s Recipe Developer is the most powerful system in the world for developing recipes and optimising formulations.

Based on over twenty years experience working with major customers in the food industry, Recipe Developer 2012 is the culmination of long-term collaborative development between food industry and IT experts.

What if……?

The system provides product developers with a dynamic workbench to try out new ideas. They can experiment with multiple possibilities in even the most complex of recipes and immediately see the effect on cost, nutrition, RDI’s, allergenic profiles, and ingredient declarations.

The system automatically monitors recipes against pre-defined specifications and project briefs, highlighting where a recipe is failing to conform - for example in identifying that a product can be certified by the American Heart Association.

The system takes into account manufacturing losses and gains – evaporation, baking losses, fat gains, spray drying, steam injection, vitamin degradation and profile losses and gains such as those in frying, cheese production (extraction of the whey) etc. etc.

Multiple variations of recipes can be easily compared side by side in a spreadsheet-type format enabling the best-fit recipe to be chosen.

Formula optimisation and standardisation

The system includes powerful optimisation functionality enabling recipes to be automatically generated to fit a complete nutritional profile in one quick and easy operation, at minimum cost.

The development and manufacture of baby milk powders is a good example of the application of these techniques, enabling complex legal and operational limits to be satisfied. Product standardization is assured, even where the quality of raw materials is changing.

The optimizer can also be used to develop product variations that conform to a pre-existing product label and to experiment with reverse engineering of formulations.

Flexibility is the key

If you ask our customers why they chose Hamilton Grant, they will tell you that a key reason is flexibility. Every area of the food industry has different requirements and it’s important that the system can be configured in a way that makes it look like it was built especially for you. That’s the nature of HG flexibility – custom-built, out of the box!

And if you need to adapt your requirements in six months time – which in today’s competitive and ever-changing market you almost certainly will – chances are you can easily modify the system yourselves in minimal time and at no cost.

It’s a global market!

Our international experience in this very specialist area is second to none. Learnings from one part of the world benefit users of our software in other parts of the world.

The system allows for legislative, formatting, and language requirements for any market in the world. This includes latest ‘VITAL’ standards for allergenic and cross-contamination labelling, nutritional, RDI, and ingredient declarations.

Recipe quality management

The system also enables quality managers to ensure that products stay legal and in line with the label even as suppliers and ingredients change.

It helps them to respond to food industry issues quickly and effectively, to be pro-active with major customers and business partners, and to minimise the possibilities of food recalls.
